 As part of a bond issue, Sterling High School received a 43,265 sf addition, and renovations to the existing 91,075 sf facility.  The new addition includes a 449 seat auditorium, commons area (which also doubles as a lunchroom) , full service kitchen, new administration center, new art room and classroom spaces, Community Wellness Center, community changing rooms, and FEMA 361 storm safe rooms / locker rooms.  The entire facility was designed for energy efficiency and includes software systems to control and monitor gas and electric consumption.  In addition, there are motion sensors in all rooms, occupancy sensors throughout the school, electronic ballasts in all new light fixtures with T8 lamps, waterless urinals, low water flush toilets and sink faucets, and the mechanical units are equipped with an energy recovery unit that makes use of outside air.  A new fire alarm system was also installed throughout the building for the safety of all occupants and a new didital temperature control system controls the indoor air quality.
